Online Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to make it to the final table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While wagering on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He regularly competes in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I believe Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the min buy in.

Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is accepted to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total dollar value. I think television can alter our perception of the real world at times. The best players in the world might be players you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen gambling on online poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in high stakes omaha hi-low and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in cash games?
