Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve final game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While playing web poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus often plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes a majority of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amount. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world could be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be found betting on internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes omaha/8 and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player.
