Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the closing table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a big pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest gamblers anywhere in the world. While betting on web poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the min buy in.
Playing for the min takes most of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I think television can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The best poker players anywhere in the world might be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be found betting on online poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in big stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in money games?
