Web Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the closing game in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest players in the world. While betting on internet poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I accept that Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be 1 of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amount. I believe television can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The best poker players in the world may be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found wagering on internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in big stakes omaha hi-low and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in money rounds?
