NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the globe by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative comments from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
