Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the last game in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest gamblers anywhere in the world. While participating in web poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus frequently participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all in. I know Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amt.. I think tv can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world could be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be found playing web poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes omaha hi-low and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
