Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental feedback from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil began playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
