Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental comments from other people kill his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Although Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a regular basis.
